Madame Marie Tussaud was born Marie Grosholtz in 1761 in Strasbourg, France. Marie learnt the craft of sculpting with wax from physician Dr. Philippe Curtius who crafted wax replications of human body parts to visualise human anatomy. The first wax figures crafted by Marie Grosholtz were King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, after the French Revolution.
Her passion and talent led to fame when her family moved to Britain and opened a London exhibition. Over two centuries later, Madame Tussauds is the world’s leading wax museum with exhibits in more than two dozen major cities. Millions of curious visitors have wandered in amazement through Madame Tussauds and the museums remain as popular as ever.
The Madame Tussaud Sydney Museum is organised into themed zones, such as Australian history, sports, fashion, world leaders, TV, film and superheroes. Visitors are encouraged to take photos posing with their favourite stars, creating fun and lasting memories.
